Update/ May 20th 2014, it seems that this info is only partly correct,
Paramount has specified that the August 5th date is when the sets are coming out in Canada, the USA date is still July 1st. Very odd why they are different.
It has not been reported that much, but this is the most high profile of 3 very recent product delays for The Legend Of Korra Merchandise.
2 weeks ago we found out that the Dark Horse Deluxe Avatar/Korra merch line was pushed back from an early May release date to June and July, last week we found out that the How To Draw Korra book was pushed back from July 1st to September 1st. And now the biggest delay is that the
Book 2 Spirits DVD and Blu Rays sets have been pushed back to August 5th from their July 1st release date.
This news comes via
tvshowsondvd.com, who got word of this from Nick/Paramount. Their article is unsure of why the date has changed, but us here at Avatar The Last Airbender Online.com being on the pulse of everything Avatar have some speculation on why this has happened.
I do not think that it is just a coincidence that we have had so many dates pushed back in such a small period of time with the only things unaffected being the comics. For me this seems to be Nick attempting to line up a bunch of Korra releases to coincide with the premiere of Korra Book 3. Something I have been very critical of Nick about has been that they have so far, 2 books in, completely failed to capitalise on the success of Korra while it airs with merch sales, it has baffled myself and many other fans that any merch release for the show has come out long after the end of a book, nothing during.
Things have changed and so I am giving Nick some credit here, here are the factors that lead me to believe that Nick have a plan
-A Korra/Avatar merch line is confirmed to be happening, we have seem some items, but we have yet to get the statues and figurines revealed
-We have a lot more merch scheduled for release than before, comics, books, dvd and a whole merch line
-Nothing has been said by Nick about the Book 3 date yet
-The merch line, the how to draw korra book and now the dvd/blu ray sets have been pushed back to roughly similar dates (July, September, August) these are the exact 3 months most fans expect Book 3 to premiere in.
I am probably giving Nick way to much credit and reading way to much into delays, but it all seems a bit too convenient to just be random delays.
