Katara from Avatar is a fourteen year old Waterbending Master, She is a very emotionally driven person who will always do what she thinks is right, Even if it is not the best thing for the group. She is also the most Mature member of Team Avatar often acting motherly to her friends, but while her friends may think she is a bit overbearing they also like the way she is so compassionate and willing to help anyone. Katara is the Moral Compass of Team Avatar, she is the most emotionally strong among her friends. Before she meets Aang she was always looking for something to give her hope, The death of her mother along with the ongoing War left her needing something to give the world hope. " When she finds Aang she immediately becomes friends with him, as he gives her Hope. Hope that he can teach her Waterbending(as she is the only Waterbender in the South Pole) and the fact that he brought Fun back to the ravaged village. She eventually goes on to accompany Aang on his journey to Master the Four Elements and Bring Balance and hope back to the world, along the way learning to Master Waterbending and Healing.

Katara's Early Life

Katara was the second child,after Sokka, of Hakoda and Kya. She was born in The Southern Water Tribe. When she was Seven Years old her tribe was attacked by The Fire Nation, she ran to find her Mother,Kya , she found her mother confronted by a fire Nation Soldier, Yon Rha , and went to get her Father to help. Katara didn't find out what happened with her mother until she and Zuko confronted Yon Rha seven years later. When she and her father returned to find Kya, they were too late, Kya had been killed by Yon Rha. Katara went those seven years not knowing that her mother lied and was killed, to protect Katara, The Last Waterbender in the Southern Water Tribe. Katara felt so helpless about not being able to save her mother and grew up Strong willed, brave and always standing up for what she believes in, but she had to grow up quickly and become the Mother figure in her family. When Katara was twelve her Father left with the other men of her tribe to fight in the war, leaving Katara and Sokka to be raised by Gran Gran. Sokka and Katara were left in charge of the now tiny Southern Tribe.Katara always felt abandoned by her father, for leaving them alone. Katara had to teach herself some waterbending as there was no one to teach her, she only knew some very basic moves but always wanted to Become a master. Katara never lost hope that things would get better both for her and the world, and also that the Avatar would return.The emotional " impact of the death of her mother would never leave her thoughts.
Finding Aang

While out with her brother,Sokka, fishing they get caught in a current and end up with a wrecked canoe and stranded on a piece of Ice. When Sokka blames Katara for their situation, she becomes furious and starts to give Sokka a piece of her mind, as she does this her strong emotions cause her to waterbend powerfully cracking open an Iceberg. This reveals a large sphere of ice,Which shoots a large pillar of light into the sky, She discovers Aang and his Sky Bison Appa trapped inside. He reveals he is an Airbender which gets Katara excited, as she thinks he can teach her. Katara immediately becomes friends with Aang while her brother remains suspicious, Aang offers to fly her to The Northern Water Tribe so she can learn Waterbending and they go Penguin sledding. They explore an old Fire Nation Ship and set off a flare by accident,Alerting the nearby Prince Zuko. When they return to the village, Aang is banished for giving away the villages location, Katara seeing her chance to learn Waterbending going away goes to go with Aang. Sokka convinces her to stay with her tribe, but she is furious that they banished Aang, the boy who has given her so much hope. Soon enough Prince Zuko arrives looking for the Avatar, annoyed that they are acting so oblivious is about to firebend at them when Aang arrives (on a penguin) revealing he is the Avatar, to Katara's massive surprise. Aang gives himself up to save the village, Katara is intent to go after him and is surprised when Sokka wants to help. They get on Appa and fly to Aang's " rescue, they arrive on scene to find Aang battling Zuko, Aang is hit with a fireblast and knocked into the water. Katara's shock turns to confusion as Aang shoots out of the Water, Tattoos and Eyes glowing atop a column of Water and blasts Zuko overboard as they land. They all escape on Appa and Start their journey to the Northern Water Tribe so Aang and Katara can learn Waterbending.
The Southern Air Temple

After Team Avatars escape from Zuko they go to the place where Aang grew up, The Southern Air Temple, Katara is worried that Aang will discover that the Air Nomads have all been killed, She tries to save Aang from learning the truth and hides some evidence. Aang eventually finds out after discovering the Skeleton of his old mentor, Monk Gyatso, this cause him to go into the Avatar State, Furious he begins to blow everything off the Mountain. Katara attempts to console Aang by telling him about how she felt after she lost her mother, then she tells him that She and Sokka are his family now. This snaps him out of the Avatar State and calms him down.
Helping Haru and the Earthbenders

When Aang becomes a celebrity on Kyoshi, Katara becomes Jealous of all "The Fan Girls" that follow him.
Team Avatar are woken up by loud noises, Aang and Katara find out it is a young boy doing some Earthbending. They follow him into town and find out the town is under occupation by The Fire Nation and that they imprison all Earthbenders on a Mining Rig out at sea. Katara becomes friends with the Boy, Haru, out walking they find an old man trapped in a cave in. Haru is forced to Earthbend to save him. Katara wakes up the next day to find out the old man told the guards on Haru and that he was taken to the Rig. Katara fells like she MUST help Haru and makes up a plan to get aboard the Ship, She gets Aang to Airbend a rock into the Air as she pretends to Earthbend.
Aboard the Ship she finds Haru and his captured father Tyro as well as the other Earthbenders, She asks what their escape plan is and is shocked when she finds out that they have no intent on trying to escape as they have no Hope. She gives an emotional speech to get them to fight for their freedom, this does nothing. Sokka and " Aang arrive to get Katara out, But she insists that they must help them escape. They realize that there is Coal on the ship and that the Earthbenders can bend it, Aang blasts the coal onto the deck and Katara tries Again to get the Earthbenders going, this seems to fail until Haru hits the Warden with Coal. This causes the Earthbenders to begin to fight back , They soon take control of the rig and are Free. Haru and Tyro thank Katara for giving them Hope.Katara notices her mothers necklace is gone.
Zuko finds Katara's Necklace aboard the mining rig .
Waterbending

Aang realizes he badly need to learn some Waterbending as he knows none, Katara offers to teach him the little she knows. Katara get mad and jealous when Aang instantly masters the moves that took her months to learn. They go into town and eventually go into a ship,which they later discover is a Pirate ship, Katara finds a Waterbending scroll and asks for a price. They realize they cant afford it and that the sellers are pirates, they leave but are chased by the pirates. When they escape Katara reveals that she took the Scroll.
Sokka is mad at her for putting the group in danger, but calms down when Katara tells him she needs it so she and Aang can learn Waterbending. Katara and Aang begin to use the scroll , Aang masters the moves easily while Katara struggles, this makes her even more mad and jealous of Aang.
That night Katara takes the scroll and attempts the moves again, But she is captured by Zuko and The Pirates. Zuko uses the Necklace to try and get her to tell him where Aang is. Aang and Sokka find Katara and get the Pirates to turn on Zuko, while Zuko and the Pirates are fighting they escape with Katara having learned the Water Whip. Katara says sorry to Aang for her jealousy.
Katara's Crush

Sokka by accident Leads the group into a Fire Nation camp, suddenly a group of kids appears and defeats the soldiers. They are a group of Freedom Fighters led By Jet, Katara immediately develops a huge crush on Jet and sees only good in him. Sokka tells her that there is something wrong with what Jet is doing but she wont listen. Jet gets Katara and Aang to fill the reservoir with Water, they soon realize that Jet is doing this to get revenge on the Fire Nation and plans to flood a nearby village inhabited by Fire Nation people. Katara is furious at Jet for lying to her, Jet attacks Aang and wrecks his glider to prevent him from evacuating the town, " Katara pins Jet to a tree with ice as Sokka arrives revealing he managed to evacuate the village in time. They leave with Katara still Angry at Jet.
When a fisherman gives out to Aang for turning his back on the world, Katara consoles him telling him that he is back now and that he gives people hope.
Fortunes

When Team Avatar comes across a town that puts all its faith in to a Fortuneteller, Aunt Wu, Katara becomes obsessed with getting fortunes for everything, but most importantly at least to Aang who she will marry, Aunt Wu tells her that she will marry a Powerful Bender. Aang is very happy after spying on this conversation. Katara doesn't think of it being Aang until she sees him single handedly protect the village from an Erupting Volcano.
Finding Bato

When Team Avatar meets Bato, a friend of Katara and Sokka's father, he reveals that they could wait and meet up with their dad. Feeling left out Aang goes for a walk and is given a map to find Katara's dad, not wanting them to leave he hides it from them. Furious with Aang, Sokka and Katara go off alone and are captured by Zuko with the Help of Jun's Shirshu , Aang returns and manages to get Katara's necklace back. They escape and make up.
Discovering Healing

When Aang loses control of his firebending and accidentally burns Katara, she goes to a stream to cool her burned hands down, while soaking her hands they start to glow and then heal themselves, Jeong Jeong tells her that she has the healing abilities some waterbenders have.
The Northern Water Tribe

Team Avatar's long journey is finally over as they find the Northern Water Tribe, they are treated as honored guests. They discover that Master Pakku will be teaching them, but when Aang and Katara arrive at their first lesson they are both Shocked to discover that it is forbidden for Women to learn Waterbending in the Northern Water Tribe, Aang doesn't want to learn without Katara but she convinces Aang to learn from Pakku. Katara goes to learn Healing from Yugoda, there Yugoda reveals that Katara's necklace belonged to her grandmother Kanna and that she grew up in the Northern tribe and was engaged but left mysteriously. Aang begins to teach Katara the moves Pakku thought him, but they are caught and Pakku refuses to teach Aang any more.
Pakku says he will teach Aang if Katara apologizes ,Katara refuses and angrily challenges him to a fight. She walks outside and despite Aang telling her she wont win she still wants to fight. Pakku walks out and past Katara, Katara water whips him causing him to fight back. After an amazing display from both benders Katara is trapped by icicles, then Pakku notices Katara's necklace which " fell off and reveals he made it for Kanna, Katara realizes that her Grandmother left because of these outdated customs. Pakku then agrees to teach both Aang and Katara. Katara advances extremely quickly and has nearly mastered Waterbending, she is now better than Aang as Waterbending.
The battle for the North

As the Fire Nation Army lead By Admiral Zhao advances on The Northern Water Tribe, Princess Yue brings Aang and Katara to the Spirit oasis so Aang can contact the spirits for help. Aang enters The Spirit World and Katara stays to protect his Body, Zuko arrives and fights with Katara. She defeats him with the help of the Moon, But as the Sun rises Zuko gains power, defeats Katara and Takes Aang.
Sokka,Yue and Katara on Appa find Zuko and Aang. Katara instantly defeats Zuko with the Moons added power, they take him with them so he wont die.
They arrive back at the Spirit Oasis to find Zhao holding the White Koi fish, The moon spirits mortal form, Iroh demands he put the fish back. Zhao releases the fish but then Firebends at it killing it,This causes the moon to vanish leaving the Waterbenders defenseless. Aang goes into the Avatar State and joins with the Ocean Spirit to create a Huge Spirit Creature, Koizilla, It easily defeats the Fire Nation fleet. Iroh notices that Yue has some of the Moon Spirits life force in her and she then proceeds to give it back,Killing herself, reviving the Moon Spirit and the Moon. " The Ocean Spirit releases Aang and Kills Zhao.
After the battle Pakku reveals that he is going to the Southern Tribe to help rebuild it, He tells Katara that she is now Aang's Waterbending Teacher
Katara and The Avatar State

As Team Avatar is about to leave The Northern water Tribe and head to Omashu so Aang can learn Earthbending from King Bumi, Pakku says goodbye and gives Katara an Amulet that contains Water from the Spirit Oasis. They go to General Fong's base, there he reveals that he wants to use Aangs Avatar State to attack the Fire Nation right there. Katara tells Aang that She saw what he was like in the Avatar State when he found Gyatso's skeleton and that he wasn't even himself anymore and that she feels scared when Aang is in such rage and Pain. After many failed attempts to induce the Avatar State, General Fong decides to put Aang in danger by attacking him, as Aang flees from the Soldiers Katara wanders out and General Fong sees a new way to get Aang into the Avatar State. He earthbends her underground, this causes Aang to enter the Avatar State in a furious rage. He lays waste to the Base injuring all the Soldiers, Roku gets Aang out of the Avatar State and they Leave.
The Cave Of Two Lovers

When Team Avatar meet Chong and his Nomads, they decide to travel to Omashu through a Secret Tunnel.Katara, Appa and Aang are separated from Sokka and Chong by a cave in. Aang and Katara eventually come across a Tomb dedicated to "The Two Lovers" they read the writing on the walls and discover the True story of The two lovers, Oma and Shu were from feuding towns and hid their love by hiding in these caves but one day the man was killed in the feud this caused the woman to use her Earthbending to end the conflict and unite the towns to make Omashu. The final line read "Love is brightest in the Dark", they are running out of light, this gives Katara an idea, she and Aang should kiss. Aang is embarrassed and accidentally offends Katara, but as the light goes out they Kiss and the crystals in the cave begin to glow showing them the way out. When they meet back up with Katara both Aang and Katara are blushing.
Omashu

Team Avatar are shocked as they arrive to find Omashu under Fire Nation control. Aang is determined to find Bumi so they enter through the sewage system. After helping the Resistance escape the city using a fake disease pentapox, they discover that the Governors Son Tom Tom has wandered into their path, the governor believing that Tom Tom has been kidnapped offers to trade Bumi for Tom Tom. Katara, Sokka and Aang arrive at the trade to find Azula, Mai and Ty Lee on the other side with Bumi. Azula thinks that it is not a fair trade, A king for a child, Despite it being her brother Mai also agrees. This cause a fight to start Katara fights Mai and Ty Lee and hold her own until Ty Lee blocks Katara's Chi in turn blocking her bending, Appa arrives and saves Katara and Sokka from capture. They pick up Aang who reveals that he must find a new Earthbending teacher.
Vision in the Swamp

When team Avatar was dragged into the Swamp, Katara while separated from her friends sees a vision of her mother,Kya, But when she realizes it is not real she is very upset.
Toph Joins the group

Katara helps Aang to find an Earthbending teacher, she uses her powers of "persuasion" to get information from two boys. She later helps to free Toph and Aang when they are captured.
Katara and Tophs relationship gets off to a rough start as they clash very early on, Katara wants Toph to do her share of the groups work but Toph insists she can carry her own weight. The tension rises between them as they grow more and more tired from being chased by Azula, and eventually Toph leaves the group. They make up as together they help to corner Azula.
Katara gives Toph some advice on the best way to go about teaching Aang.
The Library in The Desert

Katara chooses to go to the Misty Palms Oasis for her "mini vacation", they arrive to find it in very poor shape. They meet Professor Zei who tells them about a library with a vast amount of knowledge. They decide to find it to find some information to bring down the Fire Nation. Katara, Aang, Sokka and Professor Zei enter the library and they find the date of an Eclipse, Firebenders lose their bending during an Eclipse, Professor Zei Stays behind as the others escape.But their joy is short lived as they Find out that Appa has been Taken.
Team Avatar is now stranded in the middle of the desert with no supplies, Katara on her own keeps the group together as Aang goes off in search of Appa, Sokka is no help after drinking Cactus juice, she takes command and leads her friends out of the desert. Aang rejoins the group and they find a abandoned Sand Sailer and head out of the desert. They find themselves at the center of the desert,A huge rock, they explore the rock and are chased off by Buzzard-Wasps and confronted by Sandbenders. Toph reveals that one of them is the one who stole Appa, This Causes Aang to go into The Avatar State in an incredible Rage, Katara grabs his arm as he rises into the air and pulls him down into an embrace, Calming him down and consoling him.
Journey To Ba Sing Se

Team Avatar are forced to travel through the Serpent's Pass to make it to Ba Sing Se, Because a trio of Earth Kingdom Refugees had their ferry tickets stolen. Aang is acting weird and has not talked about losing Appa, They come to a sign at the Serpent's Pass that says to abandon Hope and Aang says he agrees, this shocks Katara. They are soon attacked by the Sea Serpent, Aang distracts the Creature as Katara creates an Ice Bridge everyone else makes it across,as Katara and Aang make a whirlpool which knocks out the Sea Serpent. The group exits the Serpent's Pass as one of the Refugees goes into labor, Katara takes command and helps to deliver a Baby girl, everyone but Aang goes to see the new arrival. Katara tells him that he has to see it, Aangs mood immediately changes as he says the birth has given him hope and the couple decide to name the child Hope. Aang tells Katara that he was just hiding his feelings and that the family has reminded him how he feels about Appa and her.
Arrival at Ba Sing Se

Katara helps to bring down The Fire Nation Drill, she first helps Aang to cut through the Supports inside the drill then she plugs up the Slurry pipeline with Toph.

Team Avatar are given an Apartment in the Upper Ring of the city for their Heroic exploits. After constantly being stopped from looking for Appa and seeing the Earth King, they see that The Earth King is having a party for his Pet Bear, Bosco, Toph decides that only herself and Katara have enough manners to pass in the high Society crowd. Aang is speechless when he sees Katara in her formal attire. They are refused entry But manage to get in when Long Feng escorts them in. When Aang and Sokka manage to get in and go to see the Earth King they are all captured by The Dai Li and brought before Long Feng. He reveals that it is he who "runs" Ba Sing Se and that he keeps the War a secret from the city, he tells them that if they keep interfering that they will never see Appa again.

Katara decides that she needs to bring Toph on a "Girls Day Out" because she is so messy. At first Toph is against it but soon get into it and has fun, but some mean girls insult Toph as they walk back to their apartment , Toph laughs and earthbends the girls into the river and Katara washes them away. Toph reveals to Katara that although Appearances don't matter to her the comments still hurt, Katara tells Toph that she admires her confidence and tells her that she is beautiful , Toph wants to return the compliment but she doesn't know what Katara looks like.
Ending The Conspiracy

Team Avatar go out to put up Posters about Appa, Katara runs into Jet who wants to help, but Katara is still furious at him and freezes him to the wall as her friends appear. Toph tells everyone he is telling the truth and they follow him to warehouse where they find some of Appa's fur, as they exit Smellerbee and LongShot appear and reveal that Jet was arrested by the Dai Li a few weeks ago, Toph says they are all telling the truth and they realize that Jet has been Brainwashed. Katara uses her healing to get Jet to remember where he was brought, they soon find out that it was Lake Laogai.
They find the Underwater base and enter, they are soon confronted by Long Feng and His Dai Li, Katara and her friends fight them off as Jet and Aang chase Long Feng, as Katara catches up to them she finds Long Feng gone and Jet Mortally wounded, she tries to heal him but he is too badly hurt, LongShot tells them to go and that he and Smellerbee will stay with Jet. They find Appa's cell empty and head for the surface. They are ambushed by Long Feng and the Dai Li, trapped and surrounded they look up to see Appa heading for them, he smashes through the Dai Li and hurls Long Feng across the lake.
King Kuei

Reunited with Appa the group decides to go to tell The Earth King about the Eclipse, they arrive at the palace courtyard and tear through the Palace Guards like butter and end up in front of the King. Long Feng tells King Kuei not to listen to them, they manage to prove to the king that Long Feng is behind the conspiracy and prove to him that there is a war going on. He sends Long Feng to prison and agrees to support Sokka's plan to invade the Fire Nation during the Eclipse. He then shows the group the mail that was intercepted by Long Feng, Aang has to go see Guru Pathik to master the Avatar State , Toph has to go and meet her mother in the city and Sokka and Katara get a report telling them where their fathers fleet is stationed. They reluctantly agree to split up , Aang will drop Sokka off to see his father and go to meet the Guru, Toph will go to see her mother and Katara will stay to plan the invasion. Katara hugs Aang and Kisses him on the cheek and they have a group hug as Sokka and Aang leave.
The Fall of The Earth Kingdom

Katara is helping the Council Of Five plan the invasion, they tell her to bring the scroll to King Kuei, on her way she decides to have some tea. She is stopped when she sees Zuko and Iroh working there and runs to tell the Earth King. She arrives and tells the Kyoshi Warriors that Zuko is in the City, she immediately realizes that it is Azula in disguise as Ty Lee disables her. Aang senses Katara in danger and leaves, leaving his Thought Chakra locked, to rush to save her.

Katara is put in a underground cave, Zuko is soon thrown down Too. Katara is Furious at Zuko for everything he has done to her and her Friends and being from the Nation that took her mother from her, Zuko apologizes and reveals that he lost his mother too. Katara calms down realizing that he too has feelings and has felt loss. She apologizes for being Angry and says it is just because she sees his face when she thinks of the Fire Nation, Zuko thinks she meant his scar and tells her about him being banished to search for the Avatar, Katara now trusts him and offers to heals his Scar as Aang and Iroh arrive to free them. Aang and Katara go off to help Sokka and Toph but are Stopped when Azula appears, Aang and Katara fight Azula and trap her until Zuko shows up and dramatically changes sides attacking Katara and Aang. Katara fights Zuko as Aang deals with Azula, they again get the upper hand until the Dai Li show up. Katara is surrounded and Aang does the only thing he can do try to enter the Avatar State, he meditates and begins to unlock his final Chakra, he rises into the air glowing as Katara watches on proud that Aang can enter the Avatar State on his own, her expression changes to horror as Azula Shoots Aang with Lightning before he can completely enter the Avatar State, Katara creates a huge Wave and rushes to catch the falling Aang, she holds him defenseless and in tears as Iroh appears and Holds everyone off allowing Katara " to get Aang out. " On Appa, Katara uses the Water from the Spirit Oasis to Bring Aang back to life and Team Avatar now plus King Kuei and Bosco escape from fallen Earth Kingdom.
Aang wakes up

Immediately after the Fall Of Ba Sing Se, Team Avatar goes to Chameleon Bay to meet up With Hakoda and Bato, they then captured a Fire Nation Ship and have been using it a disguise. Katara is delighted when Aang wakes up after a few weeks uncontious, she admires his hair. When Hakoda goes to introduce himself to Aang, Katara is visibly mad at her father she denies his when Aang asks her. Katara then goes to heal Aang some more revealing to him that she brought him back to life. Aang then runs away to make up for letting down the world, Katara in tears confronts her Father about this , she tells him that Aang is Selfish and Stupid for leaving and that she feels so alone, she is talking about Aang but also Hakoda, he realizes this and comforts her telling her that he always thought about her and Sokka while he was away. Katara, Sokka and Toph take Appa to search for Aang finding him on Crescent Island. They agree to stick together and travel in disguise through the Fire Nation until the Invasion.
The Kataango

Team Avatar steals some Fire Nation clothes so they can blend in better. Aang by accident takes a school uniform and is forced to go to School, when he gets in trouble he has to bring his parents to the school for a meeting. Katara and Sokka pretend to be his Parents,Taking the names Sapphire Fire and Wang Fire. Aang soon throws a Dance Party to help his classmates to express themselves, Aang takes control revealing he is an amazing Dancer, This impresses Katara. When Aang starts to dance with On Ji, Katara gets a bit jealous but this turns to embarrassment when Aang steps up and Asks " her to dance, Katara blushing agrees and they perform an amazing dance that is actually training drill they always do. They escape after the teachers appear, Katara kisses Aang on the cheek for helping all the kids.
The Painted Lady

When Team Avatar come to a small Fishing town devastated by Pollution from a nearby Fire Nation factory Katara shows off her compassionate side and begins to help this town in any way she can, she pretends to be the Village's Spirit The Painted Lady. She gives the town Food and Heals its sick, but when Sokka says the only way to truly help them would be to destroy the factory, Katara decides to do it. She sneaks out but is followed by Aang who soon finds out it is just Katara dressed up, he is proud of Katara and together they destroy the factory. This provokes the Soldiers ,and they attack the village. Team Avatar now all know that Katara is the Painted Lady and all join in to help scare off the soldiers using many Spirit effects. Just before they leave Katara is visited by the actual Painted Lady who Thanks Katara.
Scams

When Toph starts to Scam loads of Street games to make the group money, Katara expresses her feelings about it , telling Toph that she should stop before she gets caught, Toph tells Katara to stop acting like everyone Mother to which Katara suggests it because Toph is angry with her Parents. Katara then goes through Toph's stuff and finds a wanted poster for her calling her "The Runaway", Katara again confronts Toph but she just tells her to stop acting like her mother. Katara goes to bathe in the water as Sokka tries to heal the rift by talking to Toph, Katara overhears them talking about her. They admit that she is too motherly but that she is always supportive and nurturing, Toph admits that Katara cares about her more than her own parents. Katara is touched and tries to make amends by offering to do a big scam with Toph, they decide Katara will bring in Toph and collect the reward and Toph will free herself.
This doesn't go well as they are tricked by Combustion man and thrown in a Wooden cell, Katara and Toph mend their friendship and Katara uses her sweat to break them out of their cell.Team Avatar Escape from Combustion Man.
Bloodbending

While out camping in the woods Team Avatar are approached by an Old Woman who offers them her Inn, Katara immediately gets on well with Hama, they go back to the Inn and Sokka goes snooping around the inn. They find a locked chest as Hama returns and reveals that she too is from the Southern Water Tribe, she tells them her story of how she was the last bender to be taken during a Fire Nation Raid. Katara is deeply moved by her story and delighted to meet another Southern Tribe bender, Hama offers to Teach Katara all she knows. Hama teaches Katara how to pull moisture out of the Air, how to take the water from inside plants and finally they Wait until a full Moon so Hama can teach Katara one last technique. In the woods under the Full Moon Hama reveals to Katara how she escaped from Prison, she developed a technique where she can control Living things by bending the Water in their bodies, Katara then realizes it is Hama who has been Kidnapping people and refuses to learn the technique. Hama then Bloodbends Katara forcing her to the ground, Katara uses the power of the moon to resist the bloodbending and takes command in their fight, until Aang and Sokka appear and Hama Bloodbends them. She is about to make Sokka impale Aang when they are freed revealing that Katara is Bloodbending Hama, Hama is taken away as Katara is in tears after being force to learn this vicious technique.
The Invasion

Team Avatar arrive at the Invasion meeting point, Katara sees Haru and Tyro again. The Invasion force then heads to the Fire nation, as they approach the Great Gates Of Azulon they get into the Subs, Katara forms a bubble around Appa's head. They resurface for the final time before the Start of the invasion, Katara tells Aang that she is so proud of how much he has grown, Aang realizes this may be the last time they see each other and kisses Katara then flies off to the capital leaving Katara blushing. As the invasion force hits the beach they realize that they need to take out the Towers, Katara and Sokka take out one and Hakoda takes out the other but is wounded, Katara heals him but says he wont be able to lead the invasion anymore. Sokka orders a wedge formation and they charge for the Palace. As Katara heals her father Aang returns telling everyone the Palace City is empty.

Katara stays to help lead the invasion as Aang, Toph and Sokka go in search of Ozai's secret bunker. The eclipse begins and the invasion force soon takes control of the Capital, But as the eclipse ends The Fire Nation Air Fleet appears and destroys the Subs leaving everyone stranded, Aang and friends meet up with everyone and they decide that all the kids will escape on Appa and the adults will surrender, Katara says an emotional goodbye to her father as she, Aang, Toph, Sokka, The Duke and Teo escape on Appa and head to the Western Air Temple.
Zuko joins Team Avatar

The group lands at the Southern Air Temple and are approached by Zuko, who tells them that he is Good now and that he wants to join their group and Teach Aang Firebending, Katara immediately refuses and attacks Zuko and tells him to leave forever. Toph tells everyone that Zuko was truthful, but they won't listen to her and she goes off to see Zuko. When she returns her feet are burned, they decide they need to capture Zuko as Combustion Man attacks, they see Zuko attempt to call him off but he is knocked off the mountainside , Sokka hits Combustion Man with his Boomerang blocking his chi as he goes to shoot them he blows himself up. Zuko climbs back up and everyone but Katara thanks Zuko, they each allow Zuko to join the group. When Zuko is alone Katara confronts him and tells him that if he hurts Aang she will Kill him herself.
Katara laughs coldly at Zuko when he reveals he has lost his Firebending.
She is delighted when Zuko and Sokka return from their "field trip" with Hakoda and Suki.
Forgiving Zuko and the truth about her Mother

Team Avatar wake up to find themselves under attack from Azula's Airship, Zuko saves Katara from some debris but she just tells him to let go of her. The group is again forced to split up with Katara, Toph, Aang, Sokka,Zuko and Suki fleeing on Appa as Hakoda and the rest escape through a tunnel.They make camp and Katara is being very mean to Zuko, he approached her and asks her why, she tells him that she will only trust him if he can bring back her mother. Zuko again approaches Katara and this time tell her that he knows who killed her mother. She immediately heads for Appa but is confronted by Aang who tells her not to look for revenge and forgive the man who killed her mother, she says thats impossible. She and Zuko sneak on Appa at night and Aang tells her she needs to take this journey and she should forgive and not seek revenge, she and Zuko head towards the Southern Raiders. She tells Zuko of how helpless she felt the day her mother died but that she is not anymore.

They arrive at the fleet and board the ship, they confront the Captain and Katara,furious, bloodbends him but soon realizes that he is not the man.They learn that the man who killed her mother is called Yon Rha and he is retired, they ambush him as he walks home, Katara demands that he remember her. He does remember and tells Katara what happened to her mother, he had confronted Kya to find out the identity of the last Waterbender in the Souhern Tribe, Kya told him that she was the bender and he killed her. Katara now realizes her mother was killed protecting her, in a rage she reveals herself to be the last Southern tribe bender and stops just short of killing him, he begs for his life offering his own mother up, Katara seeing how empty and pathetic Yon Rha is ,spares him and leaves.

The whole group is visibly shocked at the plays ending where the Fire Nation wins the War.
The Battle for the World

Katara is shocked when Zuko reveals his Fathers plan to Burn the Earth Kingdom down, as they had planned to battle Ozai after the comet. Aang is overwhelmed by this but Katara brings everybody together into a group hug. When Aang fails to take down the "Melon Lord" he runs off to meditate. Everyone soon notices he is missing , after a search of the island yields no results Zuko decides they need to find June and Nyla to track Aang.

Nyla cannot locate Aang ,which means he doesnt exist, Zuko decides they Should find Iroh. Nyla leads them to the outer Wall of Ba Sing Se, they are soon surrounded by Bumi, Pakku, Jeong Jeong and Piandao. Pakku reveals he married Kanna, Katara is delighted for her new Grandfather. After Zuko reunites with Iroh, he tells everyone what their Destiny is, Zuko and Katara must Stop Azula, Aang must face Ozai Alone, he and the Order Of The White Lotus must retake Ba Sing Se and Sokka, Suki and Toph must take out Ozai's Air Fleet.

Zuko and Katara fly on Appa to take down Azula, they worry about Aang, They arrive just as Azula is about to be crowned Fire Lord, She challenges him to an Agni Kai and he accepts, Katara is forced to watch on As Azula and Zuko have a tremendous battle that is evenly matched until Zuko knocks Azula down with a Fire Leg Sweep, she gets up as Zuko urges her to use Lightning, she generates it and Aims it at Zuko, but at the last second shoots it at Katara. Zuko dives in the way managing to redirect most of it but suffers a grave injury. Katara can't get to Zuko to heal him as Azula is attacking her.

After The War

Before she meets Aang she was always looking for something to give her hope, The death of her mother along with the ongoing War left her needing something to give the world hope. " When she finds Aang she immediately becomes friends with him, as he gives her Hope. Hope that he can teach her Waterbending(as she is the only Waterbender in the South Pole) and the fact that he brought Fun back to the ravaged village. Katara was the second child,after Sokka, of Hakoda and Kya. She was born in The Southern Water Tribe. When she was Seven Years old her tribe was attacked by The Fire Nation, she ran to find her Mother,Kya , she found her mother confronted by a fire Nation Soldier, Yon Rha , and went to get her Father to help. Katara didn't find out what happened with her mother until she and Zuko confronted Yon Rha seven years later. When she and her father returned to find Kya, they were too late, Kya had been killed by Yon Rha. Katara went those seven years not knowing that her mother lied and was killed, to protect Katara, The Last Waterbender in the Southern Water Tribe. Katara felt so helpless about not being able to save her mother and grew up Strong willed, brave and always standing up for what she believes in, but she had to grow up quickly and become the Mother figure in her family. When Katara was twelve her Father left with the other men of her tribe to fight in the war, leaving Katara and Sokka to be raised by Gran Gran. When Sokka blames Katara for their situation, she becomes furious and starts to give Sokka a piece of her mind, as she does this her strong emotions cause her to waterbend powerfully cracking open an Iceberg. This reveals a large sphere of ice,Which shoots a large pillar of light into the sky, She discovers Aang and his Sky Bison Appa trapped inside. He reveals he is an Airbender which gets Katara excited, as she thinks he can teach her. Katara immediately becomes friends with Aang while her brother remains suspicious, Aang offers to fly her to The Northern Water Tribe so she can learn Waterbending and they go Penguin sledding. They explore an old Fire Nation Ship and set off a flare by accident,Alerting the nearby Prince Zuko. When they return to the village, Aang is banished for giving away the villages location, Katara seeing her chance to learn Waterbending going away goes to go with Aang. Sokka convinces her to stay with her tribe, but she is furious that they banished Aang, the boy who has given her so much hope. Soon enough Prince Zuko arrives looking for the Avatar, annoyed that they are acting so oblivious is about to firebend at them when Aang arrives (on a penguin) revealing he is the Avatar, to Katara's massive surprise. Aang gives himself up to save the village, Katara is intent to go after him and is surprised when Sokka wants to help. They get on Appa and fly to Aang's " rescue, they arrive on scene to find Aang battling Zuko, Aang is hit with a fireblast and knocked into the water. Aang eventually finds out after discovering the Skeleton of his old mentor, Monk Gyatso, this cause him to go into the Avatar State, Furious he begins to blow everything off the Mountain. Katara attempts to console Aang by telling him about how she felt after she lost her mother, then she tells him that She and Sokka are his family now. This snaps him out of the Avatar State and calms him down.
Helping Haru and the Earthbenders

When Aang becomes a celebrity on Kyoshi, Katara becomes Jealous of all "The Fan Girls" that follow him.
Team Avatar are woken up by loud noises, Aang and Katara find out it is a young boy doing some Earthbending. They follow him into town and find out the town is under occupation by The Fire Nation and that they imprison all Earthbenders on a Mining Rig out at sea. Katara becomes friends with the Boy, Haru, out walking they find an old man trapped in a cave in. Haru is forced to Earthbend to save him. Katara wakes up the next day to find out the old man told the guards on Haru and that he was taken to the Rig. Katara fells like she MUST help Haru and makes up a plan to get aboard the Ship, She gets Aang to Airbend a rock into the Air as she pretends to Earthbend.
Aboard the Ship she finds Haru and his captured father Tyro as well as the other Earthbenders, She asks what their escape plan is and is shocked when she finds out that they have no intent on trying to escape as they have no Hope. She gives an emotional speech to get them to fight for their freedom, this does nothing. Sokka and " Aang arrive to get Katara out, But she insists that they must help them escape. They realize that there is Coal on the ship and that the Earthbenders can bend it, Aang blasts the coal onto the deck and Katara tries Again to get the Earthbenders going, this seems to fail until Haru hits the Warden with Coal. This causes the Earthbenders to begin to fight back , They soon take control of the rig and are Free. Haru and Tyro thank Katara for giving them Hope.Katara notices her mothers necklace is gone.

Waterbending

Aang realizes he badly need to learn some Waterbending as he knows none, Katara offers to teach him the little she knows. Katara get mad and jealous when Aang instantly masters the moves that took her months to learn. They go into town and eventually go into a ship,which they later discover is a Pirate ship, Katara finds a Waterbending scroll and asks for a price. They realize they cant afford it and that the sellers are pirates, they leave but are chased by the pirates. When they escape Katara reveals that she took the Scroll.
Sokka is mad at her for putting the group in danger, but calms down when Katara tells him she needs it so she and Aang can learn Waterbending. Katara and Aang begin to use the scroll , Aang masters the moves easily while Katara struggles, this makes her even more mad and jealous of Aang.
That night Katara takes the scroll and attempts the moves again, But she is captured by Zuko and The Pirates. Zuko uses the Necklace to try and get her to tell him where Aang is. Aang and Sokka find Katara and get the Pirates to turn on Zuko, while Zuko and the Pirates are fighting they escape with Katara having learned the Water Whip. Katara says sorry to Aang for her jealousy.
Katara's Crush

Sokka by accident Leads the group into a Fire Nation camp, suddenly a group of kids appears and defeats the soldiers. They are a group of Freedom Fighters led By Jet, Katara immediately develops a huge crush on Jet and sees only good in him. Sokka tells her that there is something wrong with what Jet is doing but she wont listen. Jet gets Katara and Aang to fill the reservoir with Water, they soon realize that Jet is doing this to get revenge on the Fire Nation and plans to flood a nearby village inhabited by Fire Nation people. Katara is furious at Jet for lying to her, Jet attacks Aang and wrecks his glider to prevent him from evacuating the town, " Katara pins Jet to a tree with ice as Sokka arrives revealing he managed to evacuate the village in time. They leave with Katara still Angry at Jet.
When a fisherman gives out to Aang for turning his back on the world, Katara consoles him telling him that he is back now and that he gives people hope.
Fortunes

When Team Avatar comes across a town that puts all its faith in to a Fortuneteller, Aunt Wu, Katara becomes obsessed with getting fortunes for everything, but most importantly at least to Aang who she will marry, Aunt Wu tells her that she will marry a Powerful Bender. Aang is very happy after spying on this conversation. Katara doesn't think of it being Aang until she sees him single handedly protect the village from an Erupting Volcano.
Finding Bato

When Team Avatar meets Bato, a friend of Katara and Sokka's father, he reveals that they could wait and meet up with their dad. Feeling left out Aang goes for a walk and is given a map to find Katara's dad, not wanting them to leave he hides it from them. Furious with Aang, Sokka and Katara go off alone and are captured by Zuko with the Help of Jun's Shirshu , Aang returns and manages to get Katara's necklace back. They escape and make up.
Discovering Healing

When Aang loses control of his firebending and accidentally burns Katara, she goes to a stream to cool her burned hands down, while soaking her hands they start to glow and then heal themselves, Jeong Jeong tells her that she has the healing abilities some waterbenders have.

Team Avatar's long journey is finally over as they find the Northern Water Tribe, they are treated as honored guests. They discover that Master Pakku will be teaching them, but when Aang and Katara arrive at their first lesson they are both Shocked to discover that it is forbidden for Women to learn Waterbending in the Northern Water Tribe, Aang doesn't want to learn without Katara but she convinces Aang to learn from Pakku. Katara goes to learn Healing from Yugoda, there Yugoda reveals that Katara's necklace belonged to her grandmother Kanna and that she grew up in the Northern tribe and was engaged but left mysteriously. Aang begins to teach Katara the moves Pakku thought him, but they are caught and Pakku refuses to teach Aang any more.
Pakku says he will teach Aang if Katara apologizes ,Katara refuses and angrily challenges him to a fight. She walks outside and despite Aang telling her she wont win she still wants to fight. Pakku walks out and past Katara, Katara water whips him causing him to fight back. After an amazing display from both benders Katara is trapped by icicles, then Pakku notices Katara's necklace which " fell off and reveals he made it for Kanna, Katara realizes that her Grandmother left because of these outdated customs. Pakku then agrees to teach both Aang and Katara. Katara advances extremely quickly and has nearly mastered Waterbending, she is now better than Aang as Waterbending.
The battle for the North

As the Fire Nation Army lead By Admiral Zhao advances on The Northern Water Tribe, Princess Yue brings Aang and Katara to the Spirit oasis so Aang can contact the spirits for help. Aang enters The Spirit World and Katara stays to protect his Body, Zuko arrives and fights with Katara. She defeats him with the help of the Moon, But as the Sun rises Zuko gains power, defeats Katara and Takes Aang.
Sokka,Yue and Katara on Appa find Zuko and Aang. Katara instantly defeats Zuko with the Moons added power, they take him with them so he wont die.
They arrive back at the Spirit Oasis to find Zhao holding the White Koi fish, The moon spirits mortal form, Iroh demands he put the fish back. Zhao releases the fish but then Firebends at it killing it,This causes the moon to vanish leaving the Waterbenders defenseless. Aang goes into the Avatar State and joins with the Ocean Spirit to create a Huge Spirit Creature, Koizilla, It easily defeats the Fire Nation fleet. Iroh notices that Yue has some of the Moon Spirits life force in her and she then proceeds to give it back,Killing herself, reviving the Moon Spirit and the Moon. " The Ocean Spirit releases Aang and Kills Zhao.
After the battle Pakku reveals that he is going to the Southern Tribe to help rebuild it, He tells Katara that she is now Aang's Waterbending Teacher
Katara and The Avatar State

As Team Avatar is about to leave The Northern water Tribe and head to Omashu so Aang can learn Earthbending from King Bumi, Pakku says goodbye and gives Katara an Amulet that contains Water from the Spirit Oasis. They go to General Fong's base, there he reveals that he wants to use Aangs Avatar State to attack the Fire Nation right there. Katara tells Aang that She saw what he was like in the Avatar State when he found Gyatso's skeleton and that he wasn't even himself anymore and that she feels scared when Aang is in such rage and Pain. After many failed attempts to induce the Avatar State, General Fong decides to put Aang in danger by attacking him, as Aang flees from the Soldiers Katara wanders out and General Fong sees a new way to get Aang into the Avatar State. He earthbends her underground, this causes Aang to enter the Avatar State in a furious rage. He lays waste to the Base injuring all the Soldiers, Roku gets Aang out of the Avatar State and they Leave.
The Cave Of Two Lovers

When Team Avatar meet Chong and his Nomads, they decide to travel to Omashu through a Secret Tunnel.Katara, Appa and Aang are separated from Sokka and Chong by a cave in. Aang and Katara eventually come across a Tomb dedicated to "The Two Lovers" they read the writing on the walls and discover the True story of The two lovers, Oma and Shu were from feuding towns and hid their love by hiding in these caves but one day the man was killed in the feud this caused the woman to use her Earthbending to end the conflict and unite the towns to make Omashu. The final line read "Love is brightest in the Dark", they are running out of light, this gives Katara an idea, she and Aang should kiss. Aang is embarrassed and accidentally offends Katara, but as the light goes out they Kiss and the crystals in the cave begin to glow showing them the way out. When they meet back up with Katara both Aang and Katara are blushing.
Omashu

Team Avatar are shocked as they arrive to find Omashu under Fire Nation control. Aang is determined to find Bumi so they enter through the sewage system. After helping the Resistance escape the city using a fake disease pentapox, they discover that the Governors Son Tom Tom has wandered into their path, the governor believing that Tom Tom has been kidnapped offers to trade Bumi for Tom Tom. Katara, Sokka and Aang arrive at the trade to find Azula, Mai and Ty Lee on the other side with Bumi. Azula thinks that it is not a fair trade, A king for a child, Despite it being her brother Mai also agrees. This cause a fight to start Katara fights Mai and Ty Lee and hold her own until Ty Lee blocks Katara's Chi in turn blocking her bending, Appa arrives and saves Katara and Sokka from capture. They pick up Aang who reveals that he must find a new Earthbending teacher.
Vision in the Swamp

When team Avatar was dragged into the Swamp, Katara while separated from her friends sees a vision of her mother,Kya, But when she realizes it is not real she is very upset.
Toph Joins the group

Katara helps Aang to find an Earthbending teacher, she uses her powers of "persuasion" to get information from two boys. She later helps to free Toph and Aang when they are captured.
Katara and Tophs relationship gets off to a rough start as they clash very early on, Katara wants Toph to do her share of the groups work but Toph insists she can carry her own weight. The tension rises between them as they grow more and more tired from being chased by Azula, and eventually Toph leaves the group. They make up as together they help to corner Azula.
Katara gives Toph some advice on the best way to go about teaching Aang.
The Library in The Desert

Katara chooses to go to the Misty Palms Oasis for her "mini vacation", they arrive to find it in very poor shape. They meet Professor Zei who tells them about a library with a vast amount of knowledge. They decide to find it to find some information to bring down the Fire Nation. Katara, Aang, Sokka and Professor Zei enter the library and they find the date of an Eclipse, Firebenders lose their bending during an Eclipse, Professor Zei Stays behind as the others escape.But their joy is short lived as they Find out that Appa has been Taken.
Team Avatar is now stranded in the middle of the desert with no supplies, Katara on her own keeps the group together as Aang goes off in search of Appa, Sokka is no help after drinking Cactus juice, she takes command and leads her friends out of the desert. Aang rejoins the group and they find a abandoned Sand Sailer and head out of the desert. They find themselves at the center of the desert,A huge rock, they explore the rock and are chased off by Buzzard-Wasps and confronted by Sandbenders. Toph reveals that one of them is the one who stole Appa, This Causes Aang to go into The Avatar State in an incredible Rage, Katara grabs his arm as he rises into the air and pulls him down into an embrace, Calming him down and consoling him.
Journey To Ba Sing Se

Team Avatar are forced to travel through the Serpent's Pass to make it to Ba Sing Se, Because a trio of Earth Kingdom Refugees had their ferry tickets stolen. Aang is acting weird and has not talked about losing Appa, They come to a sign at the Serpent's Pass that says to abandon Hope and Aang says he agrees, this shocks Katara. They are soon attacked by the Sea Serpent, Aang distracts the Creature as Katara creates an Ice Bridge everyone else makes it across,as Katara and Aang make a whirlpool which knocks out the Sea Serpent. The group exits the Serpent's Pass as one of the Refugees goes into labor, Katara takes command and helps to deliver a Baby girl, everyone but Aang goes to see the new arrival. Katara tells him that he has to see it, Aangs mood immediately changes as he says the birth has given him hope and the couple decide to name the child Hope. Aang tells Katara that he was just hiding his feelings and that the family has reminded him how he feels about Appa and her.
Arrival at Ba Sing Se

Katara helps to bring down The Fire Nation Drill, she first helps Aang to cut through the Supports inside the drill then she plugs up the Slurry pipeline with Toph.

Team Avatar are given an Apartment in the Upper Ring of the city for their Heroic exploits. After constantly being stopped from looking for Appa and seeing the Earth King, they see that The Earth King is having a party for his Pet Bear, Bosco, Toph decides that only herself and Katara have enough manners to pass in the high Society crowd. Aang is speechless when he sees Katara in her formal attire. They are refused entry But manage to get in when Long Feng escorts them in. When Aang and Sokka manage to get in and go to see the Earth King they are all captured by The Dai Li and brought before Long Feng. He reveals that it is he who "runs" Ba Sing Se and that he keeps the War a secret from the city, he tells them that if they keep interfering that they will never see Appa again.

Katara decides that she needs to bring Toph on a "Girls Day Out" because she is so messy. At first Toph is against it but soon get into it and has fun, but some mean girls insult Toph as they walk back to their apartment , Toph laughs and earthbends the girls into the river and Katara washes them away. Toph reveals to Katara that although Appearances don't matter to her the comments still hurt, Katara tells Toph that she admires her confidence and tells her that she is beautiful , Toph wants to return the compliment but she doesn't know what Katara looks like.
Ending The Conspiracy

Team Avatar go out to put up Posters about Appa, Katara runs into Jet who wants to help, but Katara is still furious at him and freezes him to the wall as her friends appear. Toph tells everyone he is telling the truth and they follow him to warehouse where they find some of Appa's fur, as they exit Smellerbee and LongShot appear and reveal that Jet was arrested by the Dai Li a few weeks ago, Toph says they are all telling the truth and they realize that Jet has been Brainwashed. Katara uses her healing to get Jet to remember where he was brought, they soon find out that it was Lake Laogai.
They find the Underwater base and enter, they are soon confronted by Long Feng and His Dai Li, Katara and her friends fight them off as Jet and Aang chase Long Feng, as Katara catches up to them she finds Long Feng gone and Jet Mortally wounded, she tries to heal him but he is too badly hurt, LongShot tells them to go and that he and Smellerbee will stay with Jet. They find Appa's cell empty and head for the surface. They are ambushed by Long Feng and the Dai Li, trapped and surrounded they look up to see Appa heading for them, he smashes through the Dai Li and hurls Long Feng across the lake.
King Kuei

Reunited with Appa the group decides to go to tell The Earth King about the Eclipse, they arrive at the palace courtyard and tear through the Palace Guards like butter and end up in front of the King. Long Feng tells King Kuei not to listen to them, they manage to prove to the king that Long Feng is behind the conspiracy and prove to him that there is a war going on. He sends Long Feng to prison and agrees to support Sokka's plan to invade the Fire Nation during the Eclipse. He then shows the group the mail that was intercepted by Long Feng, Aang has to go see Guru Pathik to master the Avatar State , Toph has to go and meet her mother in the city and Sokka and Katara get a report telling them where their fathers fleet is stationed. They reluctantly agree to split up , Aang will drop Sokka off to see his father and go to meet the Guru, Toph will go to see her mother and Katara will stay to plan the invasion. Katara hugs Aang and Kisses him on the cheek and they have a group hug as Sokka and Aang leave.
The Fall of The Earth Kingdom

Katara is helping the Council Of Five plan the invasion, they tell her to bring the scroll to King Kuei, on her way she decides to have some tea. She is stopped when she sees Zuko and Iroh working there and runs to tell the Earth King. She arrives and tells the Kyoshi Warriors that Zuko is in the City, she immediately realizes that it is Azula in disguise as Ty Lee disables her. Aang senses Katara in danger and leaves, leaving his Thought Chakra locked, to rush to save her.

Katara is put in a underground cave, Zuko is soon thrown down Too. Katara is Furious at Zuko for everything he has done to her and her Friends and being from the Nation that took her mother from her, Zuko apologizes and reveals that he lost his mother too. Katara calms down realizing that he too has feelings and has felt loss. She apologizes for being Angry and says it is just because she sees his face when she thinks of the Fire Nation, Zuko thinks she meant his scar and tells her about him being banished to search for the Avatar, Katara now trusts him and offers to heals his Scar as Aang and Iroh arrive to free them. Aang and Katara go off to help Sokka and Toph but are Stopped when Azula appears, Aang and Katara fight Azula and trap her until Zuko shows up and dramatically changes sides attacking Katara and Aang. Katara fights Zuko as Aang deals with Azula, they again get the upper hand until the Dai Li show up. Katara is surrounded and Aang does the only thing he can do try to enter the Avatar State, he meditates and begins to unlock his final Chakra, he rises into the air glowing as Katara watches on proud that Aang can enter the Avatar State on his own, her expression changes to horror as Azula Shoots Aang with Lightning before he can completely enter the Avatar State, Katara creates a huge Wave and rushes to catch the falling Aang, she holds him defenseless and in tears as Iroh appears and Holds everyone off allowing Katara " to get Aang out. " On Appa, Katara uses the Water from the Spirit Oasis to Bring Aang back to life and Team Avatar now plus King Kuei and Bosco escape from fallen Earth Kingdom.
Aang wakes up

Immediately after the Fall Of Ba Sing Se, Team Avatar goes to Chameleon Bay to meet up With Hakoda and Bato, they then captured a Fire Nation Ship and have been using it a disguise. Katara is delighted when Aang wakes up after a few weeks uncontious, she admires his hair. When Hakoda goes to introduce himself to Aang, Katara is visibly mad at her father she denies his when Aang asks her. Katara then goes to heal Aang some more revealing to him that she brought him back to life. Aang then runs away to make up for letting down the world, Katara in tears confronts her Father about this , she tells him that Aang is Selfish and Stupid for leaving and that she feels so alone, she is talking about Aang but also Hakoda, he realizes this and comforts her telling her that he always thought about her and Sokka while he was away. Katara, Sokka and Toph take Appa to search for Aang finding him on Crescent Island. They agree to stick together and travel in disguise through the Fire Nation until the Invasion.
The Kataango

Team Avatar steals some Fire Nation clothes so they can blend in better. Aang by accident takes a school uniform and is forced to go to School, when he gets in trouble he has to bring his parents to the school for a meeting. Katara and Sokka pretend to be his Parents,Taking the names Sapphire Fire and Wang Fire. Aang soon throws a Dance Party to help his classmates to express themselves, Aang takes control revealing he is an amazing Dancer, This impresses Katara. When Aang starts to dance with On Ji, Katara gets a bit jealous but this turns to embarrassment when Aang steps up and Asks " her to dance, Katara blushing agrees and they perform an amazing dance that is actually training drill they always do. They escape after the teachers appear, Katara kisses Aang on the cheek for helping all the kids.
The Painted Lady

When Team Avatar come to a small Fishing town devastated by Pollution from a nearby Fire Nation factory Katara shows off her compassionate side and begins to help this town in any way she can, she pretends to be the Village's Spirit The Painted Lady. She gives the town Food and Heals its sick, but when Sokka says the only way to truly help them would be to destroy the factory, Katara decides to do it. She sneaks out but is followed by Aang who soon finds out it is just Katara dressed up, he is proud of Katara and together they destroy the factory. This provokes the Soldiers ,and they attack the village. Team Avatar now all know that Katara is the Painted Lady and all join in to help scare off the soldiers using many Spirit effects. Just before they leave Katara is visited by the actual Painted Lady who Thanks Katara.
Scams

When Toph starts to Scam loads of Street games to make the group money, Katara expresses her feelings about it , telling Toph that she should stop before she gets caught, Toph tells Katara to stop acting like everyone Mother to which Katara suggests it because Toph is angry with her Parents. Katara then goes through Toph's stuff and finds a wanted poster for her calling her "The Runaway", Katara again confronts Toph but she just tells her to stop acting like her mother. Katara goes to bathe in the water as Sokka tries to heal the rift by talking to Toph, Katara overhears them talking about her. They admit that she is too motherly but that she is always supportive and nurturing, Toph admits that Katara cares about her more than her own parents. Katara is touched and tries to make amends by offering to do a big scam with Toph, they decide Katara will bring in Toph and collect the reward and Toph will free herself.
This doesn't go well as they are tricked by Combustion man and thrown in a Wooden cell, Katara and Toph mend their friendship and Katara uses her sweat to break them out of their cell.Team Avatar Escape from Combustion Man.
Bloodbending

While out camping in the woods Team Avatar are approached by an Old Woman who offers them her Inn, Katara immediately gets on well with Hama, they go back to the Inn and Sokka goes snooping around the inn. They find a locked chest as Hama returns and reveals that she too is from the Southern Water Tribe, she tells them her story of how she was the last bender to be taken during a Fire Nation Raid. Katara is deeply moved by her story and delighted to meet another Southern Tribe bender, Hama offers to Teach Katara all she knows. Hama teaches Katara how to pull moisture out of the Air, how to take the water from inside plants and finally they Wait until a full Moon so Hama can teach Katara one last technique. In the woods under the Full Moon Hama reveals to Katara how she escaped from Prison, she developed a technique where she can control Living things by bending the Water in their bodies, Katara then realizes it is Hama who has been Kidnapping people and refuses to learn the technique. Hama then Bloodbends Katara forcing her to the ground, Katara uses the power of the moon to resist the bloodbending and takes command in their fight, until Aang and Sokka appear and Hama Bloodbends them. She is about to make Sokka impale Aang when they are freed revealing that Katara is Bloodbending Hama, Hama is taken away as Katara is in tears after being force to learn this vicious technique.
The Invasion

Team Avatar arrive at the Invasion meeting point, Katara sees Haru and Tyro again. The Invasion force then heads to the Fire nation, as they approach the Great Gates Of Azulon they get into the Subs, Katara forms a bubble around Appa's head. They resurface for the final time before the Start of the invasion, Katara tells Aang that she is so proud of how much he has grown, Aang realizes this may be the last time they see each other and kisses Katara then flies off to the capital leaving Katara blushing. As the invasion force hits the beach they realize that they need to take out the Towers, Katara and Sokka take out one and Hakoda takes out the other but is wounded, Katara heals him but says he wont be able to lead the invasion anymore. Sokka orders a wedge formation and they charge for the Palace. As Katara heals her father Aang returns telling everyone the Palace City is empty.

Katara stays to help lead the invasion as Aang, Toph and Sokka go in search of Ozai's secret bunker. The eclipse begins and the invasion force soon takes control of the Capital, But as the eclipse ends The Fire Nation Air Fleet appears and destroys the Subs leaving everyone stranded, Aang and friends meet up with everyone and they decide that all the kids will escape on Appa and the adults will surrender, Katara says an emotional goodbye to her father as she, Aang, Toph, Sokka, The Duke and Teo escape on Appa and head to the Western Air Temple.
Zuko joins Team Avatar

The group lands at the Southern Air Temple and are approached by Zuko, who tells them that he is Good now and that he wants to join their group and Teach Aang Firebending, Katara immediately refuses and attacks Zuko and tells him to leave forever. Toph tells everyone that Zuko was truthful, but they won't listen to her and she goes off to see Zuko. When she returns her feet are burned, they decide they need to capture Zuko as Combustion Man attacks, they see Zuko attempt to call him off but he is knocked off the mountainside , Sokka hits Combustion Man with his Boomerang blocking his chi as he goes to shoot them he blows himself up. Zuko climbs back up and everyone but Katara thanks Zuko, they each allow Zuko to join the group. When Zuko is alone Katara confronts him and tells him that if he hurts Aang she will Kill him herself.
Katara laughs coldly at Zuko when he reveals he has lost his Firebending.
She is delighted when Zuko and Sokka return from their "field trip" with Hakoda and Suki.
Forgiving Zuko and the truth about her Mother

Team Avatar wake up to find themselves under attack from Azula's Airship, Zuko saves Katara from some debris but she just tells him to let go of her. The group is again forced to split up with Katara, Toph, Aang, Sokka,Zuko and Suki fleeing on Appa as Hakoda and the rest escape through a tunnel.They make camp and Katara is being very mean to Zuko, he approached her and asks her why, she tells him that she will only trust him if he can bring back her mother. Zuko again approaches Katara and this time tell her that he knows who killed her mother. She immediately heads for Appa but is confronted by Aang who tells her not to look for revenge and forgive the man who killed her mother, she says thats impossible. She and Zuko sneak on Appa at night and Aang tells her she needs to take this journey and she should forgive and not seek revenge, she and Zuko head towards the Southern Raiders. She tells Zuko of how helpless she felt the day her mother died but that she is not anymore.

They arrive at the fleet and board the ship, they confront the Captain and Katara,furious, bloodbends him but soon realizes that he is not the man.They learn that the man who killed her mother is called Yon Rha and he is retired, they ambush him as he walks home, Katara demands that he remember her. He does remember and tells Katara what happened to her mother, he had confronted Kya to find out the identity of the last Waterbender in the Souhern Tribe, Kya told him that she was the bender and he killed her. Katara now realizes her mother was killed protecting her, in a rage she reveals herself to be the last Southern tribe bender and stops just short of killing him, he begs for his life offering his own mother up, Katara seeing how empty and pathetic Yon Rha is ,spares him and leaves.

Aang walks over to Katara and tells her he is proud of her for not choosing revenge, she says she couldn't ever forgive Yon Rha but that she can forgive Zuko, she then hugs him.
The Play

Team Avatar go to a play about their adventures, Katara is shocked by her portrayal as a preachy crybaby who gives loads of speeches about hope.

When Aang walks out in a huff Katara follows him, he asks her about the kiss at the invasion and why they are not together now, Katara avoids the question and just says she doesn't know and is confused and that its not a good time, Aang kisses her and Katara walks back inside upset. The whole group is visibly shocked at the plays ending where the Fire Nation wins the War.
The Battle for the World

Katara is shocked when Zuko reveals his Fathers plan to Burn the Earth Kingdom down, as they had planned to battle Ozai after the comet. Aang is overwhelmed by this but Katara brings everybody together into a group hug. When Aang fails to take down the "Melon Lord" he runs off to meditate. Everyone soon notices he is missing , after a search of the island yields no results Zuko decides they need to find June and Nyla to track Aang.

Nyla cannot locate Aang ,which means he doesnt exist, Zuko decides they Should find Iroh. Nyla leads them to the outer Wall of Ba Sing Se, they are soon surrounded by Bumi, Pakku, Jeong Jeong and Piandao. Pakku reveals he married Kanna, Katara is delighted for her new Grandfather. After Zuko reunites with Iroh, he tells everyone what their Destiny is, Zuko and Katara must Stop Azula, Aang must face Ozai Alone, he and the Order Of The White Lotus must retake Ba Sing Se and Sokka, Suki and Toph must take out Ozai's Air Fleet.

Zuko and Katara fly on Appa to take down Azula, they worry about Aang, They arrive just as Azula is about to be crowned Fire Lord, She challenges him to an Agni Kai and he accepts, Katara is forced to watch on As Azula and Zuko have a tremendous battle that is evenly matched until Zuko knocks Azula down with a Fire Leg Sweep, she gets up as Zuko urges her to use Lightning, she generates it and Aims it at Zuko, but at the last second shoots it at Katara. Zuko dives in the way managing to redirect most of it but suffers a grave injury. Katara can't get to Zuko to heal him as Azula is attacking her.

Katara is on the defensive until she spots a grate with Water under it and chains, she lures Azula over the grate and freezes them both in Ice, she frees herself and chains Azula up. She then rushes to heal Zuko, he will be ok. Katara and Zuko look on in shock as Azula begins to cry and scream uncontrollably.They have won.
After The War

During Zuko's coronation She sees Aang on the balcony, and has a moment of realization, that she does indeed love him.A few weeks later Everyone is relaxing in The Jasmin Dragon Aang walks out onto the balcony and Katara follows him out, they hug then Kiss passionately.
Katara goes on to marry Aang and have a son,Tenzin who is an Airbender, with him.

Trivia:
- If Yue is the Princess of the Northern Water Tribe, then shouldn't Katara be the Princess of the Southern Water Tribe. They are both the daughters of the Tribe Chiefs.
- Katara was originally called Kya in the Unaired Pilot, the name was reused as Katara's mother.
- Katara is the only Waterbender to know about all three styles of Waterbending: Northern,Southern and Foggy Swamp. Also she knows about every known technique of Waterbending
- Katara has the First Line of the Series.
- In The Fortuneteller Aunt Wu tells Katara that she should have her third great grandchild before quietly passing away in her sleep. Whether or not this happens will most likely be found out in Avatar: The Legend Of Korra
